Spending Valentine's Day with Jonathan Seet

By Amanda Harris

The Rivoli, Toronto-February 14, 2003 marked the launch of Arousal Disasters, the second CD from Canadian artist Jonathan Seet. I met Jonathan at a Neil Finn concert earlier this month where he disclosed the details of his CD release party.

The Riv was all decked out in candies and condoms (thanks for thinking about our primal needs Jonathan!) and there were even some LUSH door prizes for those of us who bought tickets.

All in all, the presentation was simple with a little 'taste' of fun.

The performance part of the evening was a treat. Seet's music is not easy to categorize. It's fresh sounding, while still maintaining a pop foundation. The lyrical content is visual. If you're open to this kind of suggestion, Arousal Disasters will be a 'kick' in the senses.

The vocals are strong and melodic and Seet called on guest performer Kathryn Rose to accompany on select numbers. The combination created 'perfect harmony.'

I watched Jonathan the next day on CBC's PLAY and by the end of the weekend, I wound up with the words to "Dirty Glass" stuck in my head; "…keep your eyes inside your head and drink your drink."

Arousal Disasters a showcase of Seet's performing and producing talents. The CD also features guest performers such as Dennis Mohammed, Rob Greenway and Lisa MacIssac to name a few. With friends like that, Seet is sure to get attention.

Jonathan Seet will be performing at The Rivoli again on Sunday March 23, 2003 at 9:30 PM. Definitely worth checking out.
