RHONDA STAKICH @ ¿C'est What?

By Peter Dounetas

If you just happen to learn that Rhonda Stakich is playing in town, it would be advisable that you cancel those other plans you might have made and try to be more careful in the future… check her web-calendar before you schedule anything that might interfere with her show: www.rhondastakich.com.

I caught Rhonda's March 13th appearance at ¿C'est What? with Nicole and Annelise Norhona. The mood set that night was at times subdued and whimsical, and both these opening performers provided a nice atmospheric compliment in preparation for the Rhonda Stakich Band.

The woman herself was marvellous to behold; cool, urbane and in total command of the attention of the whole room with her superb performance while maintaining a degree of the most charming modesty. Outstanding sound and flawless playing provided by Andrew Starling on bass and Jeff Lyons on drums and the brilliant guitar work of Mike, (I wish, oh, I wish I had got the last name). I could not look away from the stage - I didn't want to miss a single event.

They performed the music from Rhonda's CD, "There Were Years", (click here for the review). Here was a show as satisfying to watch as their music is enjoyable to hear. This hot quartet is a genuine "class act", all the way. I highly recommend you catch them whenever they're playing…

Rhonda doesn't have immediate plans to perform over the next few months as her bass player will be in Europe. However, check her website for upcoming gigs. You should make a point of going when she does play. Bring some people with you. Buy the CD. When they thank you for acquainting them with Rhonda Stakich, acknowledge their appreciation with a simple smile and then feel very satisfied that you participated in an activity that keeps the live music alive in this city.
